Karnal, July 13 — Union Minister and former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday described the murder of 25-year-old tennis coach Radhika Yadav as a “domestic matter” and cautioned against drawing conclusions until the official investigation is complete.
“It is not appropriate to comment until the investigation is concluded,” Khattar told reporters in Karnal when questioned about the incident. “This appears to be a domestic matter, and I believe it’s best not to make premature statements,” he added.
The senior BJP leader also expressed concern over what he termed a growing erosion of moral values in modern society.
“It is unfortunate that people's sense of social responsibility has not matured. In earlier times, joint families instilled stronger values in younger generations. The guidance of elders played a vital role in shaping character,” he said.
Ongoing Investigation into High-Profile Murder
Khattar's comments come amid ongoing investigations into the shocking murder that has garnered national attention.
On Saturday, a Gurugram court remanded Deepak Yadav, Radhika’s father and the sole accused, to 14-day judicial custody. The 51-year-old was arrested on Friday and initially held in one-day police custody for questioning.
According to Gurugram police, Radhika Yadav was shot four times in the back by her father while she was preparing breakfast at their Sushant Lok-2 residence around 10:30 AM on Thursday. She died on the spot.
“He admitted during questioning that the act was premeditated,” confirmed Sandeep Kumar, Public Relations Officer of Gurugram Police.
The police provided further details about the sequence of events. On the morning of the incident, Deepak reportedly deviated from his usual routine by sending his son to buy milk—a task he typically handled himself. Once alone with Radhika in the house, he allegedly retrieved a firearm and fatally shot her in the kitchen.
Conflict Over Daughter’s Profession
Initial reports suggested that Deepak objected to his daughter running a tennis academy. However, police have since clarified that Radhika did not own an academy. Instead, she rented local tennis courts to conduct private training sessions for her students—an arrangement her father reportedly disapproved of.
“Deepak had asked her several times to stop the coaching sessions, but she refused. That was the core issue behind their frequent arguments,” an investigating officer told PTI.
Inspector Vinod Kumar of Sector 56 Police Station further stated that Deepak objected to his daughter earning a living through sports coaching and viewed it as inappropriate.
The case continues to unfold as investigators await additional forensic findings and statements from family members and neighbors. Meanwhile, Radhika Yadav is being remembered by students and peers as a rising figure in Haryana’s tennis circuit—one whose life was cut tragically short.
