Bijapur, August 14, 2025 — A District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel was injured on Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.
The blast occurred in a forested stretch of the Indravati area during a joint anti-Naxal operation involving the DRG and the Special Task Force (STF), both elite units of the state police. The injured jawan received preliminary medical aid and is being evacuated from the site, a senior officer confirmed.
According to police, Maoist cadres frequently lay IEDs along forest tracks to target security forces during patrols and search operations. Civilians have also been among the casualties of such traps, particularly in the Bastar division, which includes Bijapur.
Two Senior Naxal Leaders Neutralised in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki
In a separate incident, two senior Maoist leaders — together carrying a bounty of ₹35 lakh — were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district on Wednesday.
The gunfight broke out late in the afternoon in the Banda Pahad forest area, under Madanwada police station limits, during a DRG-led anti-Naxal operation, Superintendent of Police Y.P. Singh said. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) provided operational support.
The operation began on Tuesday night following intelligence reports of senior Maoist cadres in the region. On Wednesday, as security personnel moved to encircle the Banda Pahad area near Retegaon village amid heavy rain, they came under fire. After the exchange subsided, the bodies of two Naxalites were recovered from the site.
The slain insurgents were identified as Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee with a reward of ₹25 lakh on his head, and Lokesh Salame, a divisional committee member carrying a ₹10 lakh bounty.
Security forces have stepped up coordinated operations in the region in recent months, targeting senior Maoist leadership as part of an intensified counter-insurgency strategy.
