Injury Blow: Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2025, Doubtful for West Indies Test Series

New Delhi, August 7, 2025 — Team India’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 and is likely to miss the two-match Test series against the West Indies, following a foot injury sustained during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test (July 23–27) while attempting a reverse sweep off England all-rounder Chris Woakes. The 27-year-old, who was in top form throughout the series, was unable to take the field thereafter and missed the fifth and final Test at The Oval (July 31–August 4).

According to a report published by The Times of India on Thursday, Pant has been diagnosed with a toe fracture that, while not requiring surgery, will keep him out of action for a minimum of six weeks.

“Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant won’t require surgery after a toe fracture during the fourth Test in Manchester. However, Pant has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks. He will miss the Asia Cup and possibly the West Indies series," the TOI report stated.

Pant’s Stellar Form and Absence Felt in Test Setup

Pant had been in sensational form during the England series, amassing 479 runs in four matches, including two centuries and three half-centuries, making him a pivotal figure in India’s middle order. His absence in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy decider was felt deeply, with young Dhruv Jurel stepping in as his replacement at The Oval.

Jurel, who impressed during the final Test, is expected to continue in the role during the West Indies series, scheduled from October 2 to 14, with matches in Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Asia Cup 2025: India’s Campaign Schedule

While Pant is not the first-choice wicketkeeper for India in white-ball cricket, his absence from the Asia Cup rules out any experimentation with his role in the limited-overs format ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign, hosted in the United Arab Emirates, kicks off on September 10 against UAE in Dubai, followed by the marquee clash against Pakistan on September 14. The group stage concludes with a match against Oman on September 18 in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament, running from September 9 to 28, is a key preparatory event ahead of the Champions Trophy, and while India are well covered in the white-ball keeping department, Pant’s prolonged absence in red-ball cricket may leave a significant gap, especially with the World Test Championship cycle underway.
