Gaza, August 25 — At least 15 people, including three journalists, were killed on Monday when an Israeli airstrike struck the fourth floor of Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, as reported by the Associated Press.
Among those killed were correspondents working for Al Jazeera and Reuters. Officials said the victims died in what they described as a double-tap strike, with a second missile hitting the hospital floor just moments after the first, as rescuers rushed to the scene.
Israel’s military has not issued a statement regarding Monday’s incident. While it has previously acknowledged targeting militants allegedly operating from within hospitals, it has not formally commented on direct strikes against medical facilities.
Nasser Hospital, the largest medical complex in Khan Younis, has endured repeated bombardments and raids during the nearly 22 months of conflict. Severe shortages of medical staff and supplies have already pushed the facility to the brink of collapse. In June, a separate strike on the hospital killed three people and injured ten. At that time, the Israeli military claimed it had targeted a Hamas command and control centre inside the hospital.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the ongoing conflict has so far claimed at least 62,686 lives. While the ministry does not distinguish between civilians and combatants, it estimates that nearly half of those killed are women and children. The United Nations and independent monitoring groups consider these figures the most credible available, though Israel disputes them and has not provided its own casualty data.
The latest strike has further heightened international concern over the targeting of medical facilities and the safety of civilians trapped in conflict zones.
