Kannur/Karnataka, August 25 — In a shocking turn of events, police have taken into custody a man in connection with the brutal murder of 22-year-old Darshitha, a native of Hunsur, Karnataka, who was found dead in a lodge room in Saligrama.
Darshitha, the daughter-in-law of a family in Irikkoor, Kannur, had gone missing shortly after a theft was reported at her in-laws’ residence near Sibga College, Kalyat. The crime was discovered when her mother-in-law returned home on Friday evening to find the front door forced open and valuables missing, including 30 sovereigns of gold and ₹5 lakh in cash.
Investigators believe Darshitha herself may have stolen the ornaments and money, allegedly to start a new life with her male companion, Siddaraju, a Karnataka native who is now in custody. Police suspect the stolen valuables were intended to support their plan of living together.
Grisly Murder in Lodge Room
Darshitha’s body was discovered in a lodge room in Saligrama, bearing signs of a gruesome killing. Preliminary investigation suggests that Siddaraju forced an electric detonator into her mouth and passed a current, causing severe facial disfigurement and death.
Though Siddaraju initially denied involvement, claiming he left the room briefly and returned to find her dead, police rejected his statement after interrogation. Evidence now points to him as the prime accused. Officers are also probing whether anyone else was involved.
Events Leading Up to the Murder
On Friday, Darshitha, who had earlier travelled to Hunsur with her two-year-old child, reportedly left the child at her parental home before joining Siddaraju. The pair visited a local temple together before checking into the lodge. What transpired between them remains unclear, but investigators suspect an altercation escalated, leading to her murder.
A police team from Kannur has joined Karnataka authorities in investigating both the Kannur theft and the Saligrama murder, as links between the two incidents become increasingly apparent.
