Ranchi: A video from the Jharkhand High Court has gone viral, showing a judge sternly reprimanding an IAS officer during a hearing on a land acquisition and compensation matter. The judge expressed strong displeasure over the officer’s conduct, flagged irregularities, and even warned of initiating an inquiry and registering an FIR.
While the identity and posting details of the officer remain unconfirmed, the matter arose during a hearing before a division bench, where objections had been raised by the officer to the compensation amount fixed by the state government.
Visibly angered, the judge questioned the bureaucrat’s motives: “Who are you to object to the compensation fixed by the state? Do you want a commission? How much commission have you taken so far?” He further remarked that once the state had approved the compensation, an officer had no authority to challenge it. “This is public money, and it cannot be misused like this,” the judge said.
In unusually sharp language, the judge likened the officer’s conduct to that of a “monkey,” saying: “When something is fixed by the state, don’t come hopping to take your share like a monkey.”
Social Media Reaction
The courtroom exchange has sparked wide discussion online, with many users praising the judge for taking a firm stand against alleged corruption.
“If all the country’s institutions remain as strong as Judge Sahib, the country would improve in 24 hours. In front of the Constitution, no politician or officer has any worth. Salute to Judge Sahib,” one user wrote.
Another commented: “If all judges adopt such an approach and ensure IAS officers, EC, and ED follow the Constitution, half the cases in courts would disappear.”
The incident has amplified calls for stronger judicial oversight in matters of governance and accountability.
