New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang after a brief exchange of fire in New Ashok Nagar, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Kartik Jakhar and Kavish, allegedly opened fire at police personnel during the encounter. One of them sustained a gunshot wound to the leg before both were overpowered and taken into custody. Police said the duo served as operatives for U.S.-based gangster Harry Boxer, who faces multiple criminal cases in India.
The arrests come as part of a wider crackdown on the Bishnoi network. Earlier this month, Jharkhand’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) secured a major breakthrough with the extradition of gangster Mayank Singh, also known as Sunil Meena, from Baku, Azerbaijan—the first operation of its kind in the state’s history.
“Prima facie, he appears to be a point of contact between Aman Sahu and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. We will interrogate him and gather all details regarding the nexus between the two groups,” said Rishav Kumar Jha, SP, ATS.
Singh, who has nearly 50 criminal cases registered against him across Jharkhand, Rajasthan and other states, is believed to have directed gang operations from abroad. In May 2024, Raipur Police, acting on intelligence inputs, arrested four suspected shooters linked to the Aman Sahu gang. Investigators later revealed the men were in regular contact with Singh, carrying out assignments for both Bishnoi and Sahu while operating under codenames.
The group had allegedly been targeting businesses across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, and was preparing for multiple attacks when intercepted. Police also seized a pistol intended for use in the crimes.
