Omar Abdullah Urges Indians to Visit Jammu & Kashmir to Revive Tourism Post Pahalgam Attack

Srinagar — In a renewed push to revive tourism in Jammu & Kashmir following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday appealed to fellow Indians to visit the Union Territory, highlighting the region’s immense economic and cultural value.

Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Abdullah underscored the vital role of tourism in Jammu & Kashmir’s economy and emphasized the power of travel in fostering national unity and economic development.

“I’m a firm believer that travel broadens the horizons and the mind, @narendramodi ji. It’s especially important for us in J&K, as tourism is a crucial part of our economy and has the potential to gainfully employ lakhs of people,” the Chief Minister posted on X.

Abdullah further urged citizens to support Jammu & Kashmir in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, writing:

“That’s why I and my colleagues are trying to convince more of our fellow Indians to visit J&K, especially after the tragic events earlier this year.”

PM Modi Praises Abdullah’s Gujarat Visit

Prime Minister Modi, in turn, lauded Abdullah’s visit to Gujarat, where he was seen jogging along the Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. Sharing a photograph of the Chief Minister at the monument, the Prime Minister posted:

“Kashmir to Kevadia! Good to see Shri Omar Abdullah Ji enjoying his run at the Sabarmati Riverfront and visiting the Statue of Unity. His visit to SoU gives an important message of unity and will inspire our fellow Indians to travel to different parts of India.”

Gujarat Visit Highlights Infrastructure and Tourism Potential

During his visit to Gujarat, Abdullah also toured the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia and praised the ambitious project for transforming drought-prone regions by bringing water and electricity.

Speaking to PTI, the Chief Minister remarked:

“This dam has brought water to areas that once knew nothing but drought. It has been J&K’s misfortune that we could never imagine such projects because we were not allowed to stop the water. Now that the Indus Water Treaty has been suspended, perhaps there will be an opportunity for similar transformative projects in Jammu & Kashmir. This could end the region’s long-standing power and water shortages.”

As Jammu & Kashmir strives to rebuild confidence among domestic travelers, Abdullah’s statements — alongside Prime Minister Modi’s endorsement — reflect a coordinated effort to restore normalcy and promote tourism as a pathway to economic recovery and national integration.
