Dozens of people were injured on Tuesday in Haryana’s Nuh district after a dispute over a parking space escalated into a violent clash between residents of Mundaka and Hajipur villages. Amid the unrest, a two-wheeler was set ablaze, causing hours-long traffic disruptions in the area.
According to police, the altercation began when a man from a nearby village parked his car on the road, obstructing traffic. When a local resident asked him to move the vehicle, an argument ensued. The car owner allegedly attacked the resident with a glass bottle, triggering a larger confrontation.
The dispute quickly drew in members from both communities, leading to stone-pelting, glass bottle attacks, and incidents of arson. A motorcycle and a small roadside shop were set on fire during the chaos.
Nuh Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar confirmed that the clash was the result of a quarrel between two youths over parking, dismissing rumours of communal tensions. “No rioting took place. Police were deployed promptly to control the situation,” he said. A case has been registered at the Ferozepur Jhirka Police Station.
Village sarpanch Ram Singh Saini said around 10 people from his village were injured in the violence. He also noted that some individuals attempted to give the incident a communal colour, but swift police intervention prevented further escalation.
Police teams from Ferozepur reached the spot soon after receiving information, and as tensions rose, additional forces and DSP-rank officers were called in from neighbouring stations. By evening, heavy security was in place, effectively turning the village into a fortified zone. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend those involved in the violence.
The incident comes just days after a similar parking-related dispute in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area turned fatal. On August 7, actor Huma Qureshi’s cousin, Asif Qureshi, was killed following an altercation over two-wheeler parking in Jangpura Bhogal Bazaar late at night.
