PM Modi Accuses TMC of Misusing Central Funds, Unveils Major Infrastructure Push in Kolkata

Kolkata – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, accusing it of diverting central funds meant for the poor and women towards party cadres.

Addressing a public gathering in Kolkata, the Prime Minister said the BJP-led Centre had extended “every possible help” for the state’s development over the past 11 years, but alleged that welfare schemes were being undermined by corruption and misuse of funds. “The BJP believes that until West Bengal develops, the yatra of Viksit Bharat will not be successful… The money sent by the Centre for the state’s development is being looted and spent on the TMC cadre,” he said. Modi reiterated the BJP’s slogan, “Bangalar Uday, Tobei Viksit Bharater Jai” (The rise of Bengal leads to the victory of a developed India).

He urged voters to back the BJP to ensure that the benefits of central government schemes reach the poor. “It is necessary to elect the BJP in West Bengal so that development touches every life. It is certain that TMC will be removed from power and BJP will be elected,” he added.

Attack on Law and Order and Infiltration

PM Modi accused the TMC government of presiding over rising crimes against women, lawlessness, and systemic corruption. “Atrocities against women have increased. Crime and corruption have become the identity of the TMC government. Real change will come only when TMC is removed from power… Criminals and corrupt should be in jail, not in power,” he declared.

The Prime Minister also raised the issue of illegal immigration, alleging that the TMC and Congress were promoting infiltration for political gains. “Vote for us and the infiltrators will run away… We will not allow infiltrators who take away jobs of our youth and torture women to stay in India,” he said.

Defence and Atmanirbhar Bharat

Highlighting India’s military strikes against Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, Modi praised the role of indigenously developed weaponry. “Our forces have destroyed terror camps and taught a lesson to Pakistan. The biggest power behind this success is Made in India weapons. Dependence on others is an injury to self-respect, and that is why the nation has chosen the path of Atmanirbharta,” he said.

Infrastructure Boost for Kolkata

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated infrastructure projects worth ₹5,200 crore, including three crucial metro stretches:

  • Sealdah to Esplanade (Green Line, 2.6 km)

  • Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Yellow Line, 6.77 km)

  • Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata (Orange Line, 4.39 km)

These projects mark the first time in 41 years that Kolkata’s metro will directly connect the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport with the city.

Additionally, Modi laid the foundation stone for the ₹1,200 crore Kona Expressway, a 7.2-km elevated corridor aimed at improving connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata.
