August 5, 2025 | New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party on Tuesday, used the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 to reaffirm his government’s nationalist agenda while taking pointed aim at the Opposition for what he described as a strategic blunder during the recent parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor.
Speaking to NDA lawmakers, the Prime Minister drew a symbolic link between key milestones in the BJP-led government’s political journey and the date of August 5.
“On August 5, we abrogated Article 370. On August 5, we laid the foundation of the Ram Mandir. And today, on August 5 again, the Opposition stands exposed—where else will you find such an Opposition that demands a debate only to land a blow upon itself?” the Prime Minister remarked, in a caustic assessment of the Opposition’s recent tactics.
Constitution in Practice, Not Just Principle
Reiterating his party’s position on Jammu and Kashmir, Modi underlined that it was the NDA government—not the Opposition—that had truly upheld the Constitution by fully integrating the region into the Indian Union through the removal of Article 370.
“They invoke the Constitution in every speech, yet they denied its full application in Jammu and Kashmir for decades,” Modi said, asserting that the constitutional promise of equality had only been realised under his government.
Operation Sindoor: Opposition’s Gamble Backfires
The Prime Minister also addressed the political ramifications of the recent parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory military strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), launched in response to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
“The Opposition insisted on a debate. But instead of cornering the government, they revealed their own lack of clarity and national responsibility. They now regret it,” he said.
NDA Resolution Hails Armed Forces and Government's Leadership
During the meeting, the NDA passed a strongly worded resolution condemning the Pahalgam attack, which left 26 innocent tourists dead, reportedly targeted on the basis of religion by terrorists affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF)—a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. The resolution saluted the valour of the Indian Armed Forces and the leadership of Prime Minister Modi in orchestrating India’s swift and targeted military response through Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev.
It further praised the government’s unequivocal stance on terrorism, reaffirming that no distinction would be made between terrorists and their state sponsors, and India would respond on its own terms, rejecting nuclear threats and diplomatic coercion.
Operation Sindoor: A Strategic and Cultural Message
The resolution also highlighted the symbolic importance of naming the operation “Sindoor”—a cultural emblem of dignity, marital sanctity, and honour. “While terrorists sought to destroy the sanctity of Indian families by attacking innocent civilians, the armed forces restored honour through their bravery,” the statement read.
Beyond symbolism, the operations were portrayed as the outcome of deep-rooted structural reforms in the defence sector, led by PM Modi, including advances in joint force operations, defence indigenisation, and drone warfare capability.
A Day of Reckoning and Resolve
The Prime Minister’s remarks and the NDA’s resolution framed August 5 not just as a day of remembrance, but as a moment of political and national reaffirmation. By juxtaposing constitutional integration, cultural revivalism, and strategic retaliation, Modi positioned his government as the custodian of both India’s security and civilisational identity.
With the Opposition on the back foot and global attention once again focused on India’s counter-terrorism doctrine, the message from the NDA was clear: India will not be provoked into silence, nor pressured into submission.
