"Storm Floris" issues status yellow warning in UK

The Met Office has announced that a storm named Storm Floris will hit the UK.

Storm Floris will bring "heavy rain" and "unseasonably strong winds" to the UK on Monday, meteorologists say

The Met Office said the northern parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland would be the worst hit, with a yellow warning in place.

The warning will be in effect in the UK from 6am on Monday until 6am on Tuesday.

In areas under a yellow alert, winds are expected to blow from the west at 40-50mph inland, and 60-70mph on open coasts and hills. Winds of up to 85mph are possible in Scotland.

The strongest winds are likely to hit Scotland on Monday afternoon and night, but "some uncertainty remains over the depth and path of Floris", the Met Office said.
