In a disturbing incident in the Hauz Qazi area, Delhi Police have apprehended a man accused of raping his mother on two separate occasions. The 65-year-old victim, who courageously reported the matter to authorities, alleged that her son forced her to remove her burqa, confined her in a room, and subjected her to physical assault. The accused reportedly justified his actions as a form of "punishment" stemming from longstanding suspicions of an extramarital affair decades ago. The woman resides with her retired government employee husband, the accused son, and a younger daughter in Hauz Qazi, while her elder daughter lives nearby with her in-laws.
Victim Recounts Ordeal
The troubling sequence of events began on July 17, when the woman, her husband, and younger daughter departed for a religious pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. Eight days later, while the family was still abroad, the accused allegedly made persistent calls to his father, pressuring them to return to Delhi. In her formal complaint, the woman stated, “He insisted we return because he wanted my husband to divorce me, alleging he had uncovered evidence of my extramarital relationships with other men during his childhood, prior to the birth of his younger sister, and during my husband’s work-related travels.”
The family returned on August 1, only for the accused to allegedly attack his mother upon their arrival. According to a police officer citing the victim’s statement, “He made her remove her burqa, locked her in a room, and beat her, telling her husband that he had spoiled her.”
Escalation of Violence
The situation escalated on August 11, when the accused informed family members of his intent to speak privately with his mother. “He locked her in a room and raped her, claiming it was punishment for her past conduct despite her pleas acknowledging their maternal bond,” a police official reported. Frightened by the ordeal, the woman initially sought refuge at her elder daughter’s residence but returned home as conditions deteriorated.
On August 14, the accused allegedly entered the room where his mother was sleeping and assaulted her again. The following day, August 15, she confided in her younger daughter, who encouraged her to seek police assistance.
Legal Action
Authorities have registered a case under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been arrested, and a thorough investigation is currently in progress.
