U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has publicly expressed a keen interest in the ongoing debate surrounding unidentified flying objects (UFOs), vowing to investigate the matter more thoroughly during the upcoming congressional recess in August.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Ruthless Podcast, which aired on Friday, Vance shared his fascination with the unexplained aerial phenomena that have captivated public and governmental attention in recent years.
“I’m obsessed with the whole UFO thing. What’s actually going on? What were those videos all about? What’s really happening?” Vance said, noting that although his administration has only been in office for six months, he plans to devote time over the recess to revisit the events and reports from the previous year.
While Vance did not provide specifics, he appeared to be referencing a series of unexplained drone sightings reported across New Jersey in late 2024. Many of the unidentified aerial vehicles, some described as large as a sedan, were observed near military installations including the Picatinny Arsenal research center.
The mass sightings prompted a multi-agency investigation involving the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI reportedly received more than 5,000 tips related to the drone activity between November and December. However, an agency official later disclosed that fewer than 100 of those reports led to credible leads warranting deeper investigation.
In January, the Trump administration issued a formal update stating that the majority of drone activity over New Jersey had been deemed lawful. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, many of the drones were FAA-authorized for research purposes, while others were operated by hobbyists who flew them without the necessary approvals.
As Vice President Vance prepares to explore the issue further, the public remains intrigued by the government’s growing transparency and attention to unexplained aerial phenomena—once relegated to fringe curiosity but now the subject of serious policy and scientific interest.
