India Successfully Tests Agni-Prime Missile from Rail-Based Mobile Launcher

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday announced the successful test launch of the Intermediate-Range Agni-Prime missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, marking a significant milestone in India’s strategic capabilities.

In a post on X, Singh highlighted that the next-generation missile has a strike range of up to 2,000 km and incorporates several advanced technologies. “The successful launch of the Intermediate-Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system demonstrates India’s growing defence prowess. This next-generation missile is designed to cover a range of up to 2,000 km and is equipped with state-of-the-art features,” he wrote.

The test, conducted from a specially designed rail-based launcher capable of moving seamlessly across the railway network, represents the first such launch of its kind. Unlike conventional systems, the launcher provides cross-country mobility, reduced visibility, and the ability to execute launches within a short reaction time.

Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the Armed Forces for the successful test, emphasising that the achievement places India among a select group of nations with the ability to deploy canisterised missiles from rail-mobile platforms.

The Agni-Prime is part of India’s broader effort to enhance its strategic deterrence and improve the mobility, survivability, and responsiveness of its missile arsenal.
