Hyderabad: A day after her suspension from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K Kavitha on Wednesday announced her resignation from both her party membership and her legislative position.
Calling her suspension “painful,” Kavitha said, “It is very painful that I am suddenly suspended from the BRS party. I am resigning from the MLC position and the party’s primary membership. I am sending my resignation to the Speaker and to K Chandrasekhar Rao.”
The former BRS leader clarified that she was not aligning with any other political party at present but would consult members of Telangana Jagruti, an organisation she heads, before deciding her next course of action.
Speaking to the media, Kavitha reflected on her relationship with her father and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and her brother, working president KT Rama Rao (KTR).
“KCR garu and KTR garu are my family. We are bound by blood. This bond should not break over reasons like suspension from the party or losing posts. However, some people want our family to disintegrate for their personal and political growth,” she alleged.
Kavitha also claimed she had raised concerns with her brother about “conspiracies” and a “false campaign” against her but said he did not respond.
“I went to Bhavan and met brother KTR. I told him about the conspiracies and the false campaign against me. I requested him, not only as a sister but also as an MLC of the party. But he did not bother; he didn’t even call me. This happened long ago. As the working president and as a party MLC, I complained about these conspiracies. Did you take any action, Anna? Did you even speak a single word about it?” she asked.
On Tuesday, the BRS announced Kavitha’s suspension, citing “anti-party activities.” In a statement, party General Secretaries T Ravinder Rao and Soma Bharat Kumar said, “K Kavitha’s behaviour in recent times and her anti-party activities are hurting the BRS. The leadership has taken serious note of it. BRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to suspend her with immediate effect.”
