Ahmedabad, September 14: The city’s real estate sector was jolted after prominent builder Himmatbhai Rudani (62) was found murdered, his body discovered inside the trunk of his luxury Mercedes on Saturday night.
The vehicle was abandoned near the Viratnagar overbridge in Odhav, where local residents alerted police after noticing a foul odour emanating from the parked car. A team from the Odhav police station recovered the body, which bore multiple stab wounds inflicted with a sharp weapon, suspected to be a knife.
Police believe Rudani was killed elsewhere before his body was placed in the car and abandoned. The victim was last seen by his family while on his way to a construction site through the Ring Road area, according to officials.
A case has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Rudani’s son. Investigators examined CCTV footage from the vicinity and scrutinised call records to retrace the builder’s movements and identify suspects. Acting on leads, police tracked three individuals to Rajasthan’s Sirohi district, where they were apprehended. The accused were identified as Himanshu alias Rahul Rathod, Pappu Meghwal, and a minor.
Rudani’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while investigations continue into the motive behind the murder.
A respected member of the Patidar community, Rudani was known for his company DV Developers, which had undertaken several prominent residential projects in Ahmedabad. His brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the city’s construction industry and community organisations.
The incident comes close on the heels of another violent crime in Paldi, where a young man was murdered just a day earlier, raising concerns about law and order in the city.
