Cuddalore/Hardoi, September 7: In a shocking case of violence and public humiliation, a woman in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district was stripped, tied to a tree, and brutally beaten by four women, police said on Saturday. A video of the assault, filmed by onlookers, has since gone viral on social media, sparking outrage.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a land dispute. The video shows the victim tied to a tree with her own saree while the accused women assaulted her with sticks and hurled abusive language. At one point, they ripped off her blouse to further humiliate her.
Authorities have arrested one of the accused, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining three. “A land issue appears to be the motive. Investigation is underway,” a senior police officer told NDTV.
Woman Beaten to Death in Uttar Pradesh Following Family Clash
In another disturbing case of mob violence, a 40-year-old woman was beaten to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district on Friday. The incident reportedly began as a fight among children during play, which quickly escalated into a violent clash between families.
Police said that a group armed with sticks and rods stormed into the victim’s house and attacked her. The deceased has been identified as Rahmani alias Alia. “The attackers severely beat Alia, leaving her critically injured. She later succumbed to her injuries,” Circle Officer Anit Mishra told PTI.
The victim’s husband, Razzaq, named the assailants as Musaffar, Sher Ali, Naseem, and a minor. Mishra said that by the time neighbours gathered after hearing Alia’s cries for help, the attackers had fled, continuing to hurl abuses as they escaped.
Both incidents have raised fresh concerns about escalating local disputes turning into brutal public violence, underscoring the urgent need for community-level interventions and stronger law enforcement measures.
