Australia: Two nurses die after trying to help a kangaroo in Melbourne.
In Melbourne, two Nepalese nurses who stopped their vehicle on the freeway to help a kangaroo were killed when they were hit by another vehicle.
The two 30-year-old nurses, "Sara Khadka" and "Aruja Suwal", were killed. The tragedy occurred when the two were returning home after celebrating Suwal's 30th birthday. One nurse died on the spot, while the other died in the hospital.
On Thursday night, a speeding vehicle swerved to avoid hitting their car as they tried to help an injured kangaroo on the side of the road in Melbourne, Australia. The driver of the car that hit them remained at the scene until police arrived.
Wildlife rescue groups have urged motorists on freeways to contact trained personnel if they see injured animals on the side of the road, rather than stopping their vehicles on busy roads.
“People can be worried when they see an animal on the side of the road, but it’s safer to call rescue organizations,” said a WIRES spokesperson.
Victoria Police said 203 people have died on the state's roads so far this year, 11 more than at the same time last year.
