New Delhi, October 19, 2025 — Iran’s outgoing Ambassador to India, Dr. Iraj Elahi, has concluded his diplomatic tenure in New Delhi, marking the end of a significant chapter in India–Iran relations. In a heartfelt farewell message, Ambassador Elahi described India and Iran as “natural partners”, united by shared civilizational values, strategic autonomy, and mutual respect.
Reflecting on his tenure, Elahi expressed satisfaction over the operationalization of the Chabahar Port, calling it a milestone achievement that strengthened economic and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
“I firmly believe that Iran and India, with their natural strengths, cultural affinities, and shared strategic independence, are destined to remain natural partners,”
Elahi stated in his farewell note.
A Milestone in Bilateral Cooperation
The envoy highlighted the activation of Chabahar Port as a landmark in India–Iran relations, emphasizing its role as a crucial gateway to connect Iran’s railway network and enhance regional connectivity.
“The progress at Chabahar during my tenure gives me great satisfaction. It will soon link with Iran’s railway grid, fostering regional development and contributing to the global economy,”
he said.
Fond Memories of India
Expressing deep affection for India and its people, Ambassador Elahi said his time in the country had been filled with unforgettable experiences and warmth.
“As my diplomatic mission in India comes to an end, I leave this beautiful land with priceless memories. Throughout my stay, I always felt at home among the warm-hearted and humble people of India,”
he remarked.
He further praised India’s relentless pursuit of global recognition and expressed confidence that the nation would soon achieve its rightful place in the world order.
Acknowledging India’s Support and Cultural Heritage
Dr. Elahi lauded India’s rich cultural heritage and extended gratitude for India’s consistent support to Iran in times of need.
“Over the years, I have been privileged to travel across India, witnessing its remarkable cultural and historical legacy. I have deeply felt the unbreakable bond of friendship that unites the great peoples of Iran and India, who have stood by each other through the highs and lows of history,”
he noted.
He also warmly invited Indians to visit Iran to experience its ancient civilization and enduring ties with India.

India and Iran share a millennia-old cultural and civilizational relationship built on mutual respect, trade, and exchange of ideas. Modern bilateral ties continue to draw strength from this shared history, encompassing strategic connectivity projects, economic cooperation, and people-to-people engagement.
