Inquest Reveals Faulty Coach Door in Tragic Death of Teacher Amanda Kinsella

Donegal, Ireland – October 3, 2025: An inquest into the death of 27-year-old teacher Amanda Catherina Kinsella has revealed that an "intermittent fault" in the emergency exit door of the coach she was travelling on may have contributed to the tragedy. Investigators noted that the fault in the door’s locking system could not have been detected through routine inspection or by the driver.

Ms. Kinsella, from Bennekerry, Co. Carlow, suffered multiple traumatic injuries and died after falling from the moving coach and being struck by a vehicle at Ardnawark, Barnesmore Gap, near Donegal Town at approximately 3.45 pm on August 13, 2021.

At the time, Ms. Kinsella was on a summer break from her teaching job in the Middle East and was travelling with a wedding party celebrating the second day of festivities. The private coach was en route to Strabane, carrying wedding guests to continue the celebrations.

According to the inquest, Ms. Kinsella was moving toward the rear of the coach when she lost her balance as the vehicle navigated a bend, leading to her fatal fall.

Well-known in GAA circles, Ms. Kinsella played football for Irish clubs while living in Bahrain, where she had been teaching. Friends and family described her as a vibrant and passionate sports enthusiast whose untimely death has left a lasting impact on her community.

The inquest continues as authorities examine safety procedures and coach maintenance protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
