The Jaffar Express was attacked on Tuesday near the Sultankot area, close to the Sindh–Balochistan border, when a planted explosive device detonated on the railway tracks. The powerful blast caused multiple coaches of the Quetta-bound train to derail, leaving several passengers injured. While the exact number of casualties and the extent of the damage are yet to be confirmed, rescue operations are underway. Security forces and emergency crews have cordoned off the area, with medical teams attending to the wounded and investigators probing the source of the explosion.
This marks yet another attack on the Jaffar Express, which has become a recurring target in the region’s ongoing unrest. In August 2025, an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Balochistan’s Mastung district derailed six of its coaches, injuring several passengers and disrupting rail services. Earlier in March 2025, militants affiliated with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the train in the Bolan Pass, taking more than 400 passengers hostage during a tense standoff. That attack resulted in multiple casualties among both security personnel and hostages after heavy exchanges of gunfire and the use of explosives.
Balochistan continues to grapple with instability, as separatist groups routinely launch assaults on critical infrastructure, security convoys, and transport routes. The repeated targeting of the Jaffar Express underscores deepening concerns over passenger safety and the deteriorating security situation along the Sindh–Balochistan corridor.
