Kottayam Woman’s Murder: Husband Arrested After Body Recovered from Gorge in Idukki

Kottayam, Kerala – Shocking details have emerged in the case of a missing woman from Kuravilangad, whose body was discovered in a gorge in Idukki district. Police investigations have revealed that the victim, identified as 50-year-old Jessy of Kanakkari Kappadakkunnel House, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Sam K. George, who later disposed of her body by pushing it into a deep ravine.

The victim’s body was found abandoned in the Cheppukulam gorge near Karimannoor, Idukki. According to police, the murder was triggered by marital discord, with Jessy repeatedly confronting her husband over his alleged extramarital affairs.

Jessy was last in contact with her children, who live abroad, on September 26. When they were unable to reach her in the days that followed, they alerted her friends, who subsequently lodged a missing person complaint with Kuravilangad Police on September 29.

During the investigation, suspicion fell on her husband, who was taken into custody in Bengaluru and brought back to Kerala for questioning. Under interrogation, Sam reportedly confessed to the crime. Police said he strangled Jessy at their residence in Kanakkari on September 26 and later transported the body in a car before dumping it into the gorge near Thodupuzha.

Based on his statements, a police team led by the Vaikom Deputy Superintendent of Police, along with local fire and rescue personnel, conducted an extensive search and recovered the body from a depth of nearly 30 feet after a one-and-a-half-hour operation. The remains were later sent for postmortem examination.

Police confirmed that the couple had been experiencing severe marital problems since 2005 and were involved in an ongoing divorce case at the Pala family court. Although the legal proceedings were underway, they continued to live in separate portions of the same house. Jessy had reportedly accused Sam of maintaining multiple relationships with both local and foreign women.

Authorities stated that the confrontation over these alleged affairs ultimately led Sam to commit the crime. He remains in police custody as further investigations continue.
