Hamas Signals Support for Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan, Agrees to Immediate Talks

Hamas has expressed a positive stance toward U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and has signalled readiness to accept nearly all of its principal conditions. In a statement released Friday, the Palestinian militant group said it is prepared to release all Israeli captives—dead and alive—under the framework of the peace proposal advanced by President Trump.

The announcement, if acted upon, could prove pivotal to ending the fighting in Gaza. Hamas said it is willing to enter immediate, mediated talks to discuss the plan in detail. Such a move would mark the most significant breakthrough to date in months-long efforts to secure the return of hostages taken during the October 2023 assault on Israel.

Hamas also reiterated that it is prepared to transfer Gaza’s administration to a “Palestinian body of independent technical experts,” a departure from the group’s previous control of the territory. The group publicly thanked President Trump for his role in the ceasefire efforts and expressed gratitude to Arab, Islamic and international partners who have supported the mediation.

Earlier, President Trump had issued an ultimatum, demanding that Hamas accept a peace agreement with Israel by Sunday at 6 p.m., warning that failure to do so would invite severe consequences for Gaza. Trump framed the deadline as a final opportunity for Hamas to accept the Gaza plan, release Israeli captives, and end hostilities; otherwise, he warned, the outcome would be dire. The White House has described the plan as a roadmap both to an immediate halt to the fighting and to a longer-term governance solution for Gaza.

Under the 20-point Gaza plan, Hamas would be required to release all Israeli captives—whether alive or deceased—within 72 hours of reaching a peace agreement, in exchange for Israel freeing hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. The proposal envisages the end of Hamas’s control over Gaza, with the territory placed under an internationally monitored, independent administration. Humanitarian assistance would be dispatched to Gaza immediately upon the group’s acceptance of the plan.

President Trump cautioned that rejection of the plan would prompt the United States to give its full support to Israel in pursuing the complete dismantling of Hamas. If Hamas follows through on its stated willingness to engage and to hand over Gaza’s administration, the development would represent a consequential step toward peace in the region.
