Born in the coastal town of Kundapura in Karnataka, Rishab’s rise to national recognition is remarkable. He completed his school education in Kundapura before moving to Bengaluru for higher studies, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Vijaya College, Jayanagar.

From an early age, Rishab was drawn to the performing arts. In his hometown, he found opportunities to perform in Yakshagana dramas, laying the foundation for his career in theatre. Even while pursuing his degree in Bengaluru, he continued participating in stage productions, earning accolades such as the Best Actor Award for his performance in Gashiram Kodwal.

Pursuing the Cinema Dream
Rishab’s ultimate ambition was cinema, and he actively charted a path toward it. He completed a diploma in filmmaking from the Government Film and Television Institute in Bengaluru. However, he knew that formal education alone would not open doors in the industry. Determined to gain experience, Rishab took on even the humblest roles on film sets, from delivering mineral water bottles to working as a clap boy and driver.

Rishab’s first significant break came in 2006 when he worked as an assistant director on the Kannada film Cyanide. Meeting established actor Rakshit Shetty further helped shape his career. His on-screen debut came with the 2012 film Tuglak, but it was his performance in the 2014 film Ulidavaru Kandanthe that drew widespread attention.

In 2016, Rishab directed his first film, Ricky, followed by Kirik Party, which became a major success and earned him multiple awards for his direction. His talents were further recognized nationally with films like the children’s movie Ramanna Rai, produced by Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shale Kasargod, and Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, directed by Raj B. Shetty, which solidified his reputation.

The Making of Kantara
Rishab’s directorial and creative vision is evident in the blockbuster Kantara and its follow-up, Kantara Chapter 1. His meticulous research into local myths such as Guliga and Panchuruli and his commitment to authentic storytelling contributed significantly to the films’ success. The production of Kantara Chapter 1 took three years, during which Rishab relocated his family from Bengaluru back to his hometown of Kundapura so they could be closer to their roots while supporting his work.
