Patna: In a major pre-election announcement, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday vowed that every household in Bihar would have at least one government job if his party forms the next government — a move he described as “historic and revolutionary.”
Addressing supporters, Tejashwi declared, “As soon as our government is formed, within 20 months, there will not be a single household in Bihar without a government job.” He further said his first act as chief minister would be to sign the proposal in the very first cabinet meeting. “This is just the beginning of a series of major announcements,” he added. “Many more will follow.”
Dismissing suggestions that the promise was unrealistic, the former deputy chief minister said, “We have studied this scientifically and have data on all such families based on our survey. If I am making this announcement, it is because I know it is achievable. This is not jumlebaazi; we are not misleading anyone.”
In a post on X, Tejashwi reiterated his commitment, stating, “Under the principle of economic justice, we have made a historic and transformative announcement today. Every family in Bihar that does not currently have a government job will be mandatorily provided one through a new Act.”
Recalling his 2020 election pledge to create 10 lakh government jobs, Tejashwi said that while the NDA government “did nothing to generate employment for 20 years,” it was only under his “pressure” that jobs were provided in recent years.
“The NDA could not provide jobs to Bihar’s youth in two decades. Within 20 days of coming to power, we will introduce this Act, and within 20 months, it will be fully implemented,” he said.
Tejashwi also pointed out that during his brief tenure as deputy chief minister, his government had provided five lakh jobs, asserting, “Imagine what could have been achieved if we had a full five-year term.”
Taking aim at the ruling NDA, he accused the government of having “replaced jobs with unemployment allowances,” and promised to “reverse that trend” if elected.
The announcement comes just weeks before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
According to the Election Commission, the final voters’ list now includes 7.24 crore electors, after nearly 65 lakh names were removed during the recent revision. The updated roll reflects a slight decline from 7.89 crore voters recorded earlier this year.
