DUBLIN, October 18: The family of a 17-year-old Ukrainian boy who died following an incident in Dublin on Wednesday has paid emotional tribute to him, describing him as “kind, intelligent, and well-mannered.”
The teenager, identified as Vadym Davydenko, died after an altercation at a Tusla emergency accommodation centre in the Grattan Wood area of Donaghmede. Two others were hospitalised with injuries. Gardaí have since arrested another teenager on suspicion of murder.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Vadym’s family said he had recently completed his schooling in Ukraine and travelled to Ireland in search of a better future.
“He was just 17. He had just graduated from school and left to search for a better life in Ireland,” his cousin wrote on Facebook. “He was kind, very intelligent, and mannered — very fair.”
The family also revealed that Vadym had been preparing to celebrate his 18th birthday next month.
“On November 1, he was supposed to celebrate his coming of age,” the post continued. “But instead of greetings, his parents are heartbroken. They don’t know how to bring home and bury their child’s body now.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and among Ireland’s Ukrainian diaspora, many of whom fled the war seeking safety and stability. Gardaí investigations are ongoing.
