Lucknow, October 1: In a festive bonanza for lakhs of government employees and pensioners, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a 2% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) ahead of Diwali. The decision, hailed as a major relief measure, will directly benefit nearly 2.8 million employees and pensioners across the state.
DA Raised from 53% to 55%
Following the Chief Minister’s approval, the DA for government employees and pensioners has been raised from 53% to 55%. This revision is expected to provide significant financial relief to approximately 1.6 million employees and 1.2 million pensioners, helping them cope with inflation and boosting their purchasing power.
₹7,000 Bonus for Contract Workers
In addition to the DA hike, the government has also extended benefits to contractual staff. Nearly 1.48 million contract workers will receive a bonus of up to ₹7,000, providing them with meaningful financial support during the festive season.
Festive Relief and Economic Boost
Officials noted that while the decision will add extra burden on the state exchequer, it will also generate positive momentum for the economy by increasing consumer spending during the festival season. The move has been welcomed by employees and pensioners, many of whom had been demanding a DA hike for months.
The increased DA and festive bonus are expected to be credited to beneficiaries’ accounts before Diwali, ensuring that families across the state celebrate the festival with renewed joy.
Strengthening Employee Confidence
Observers say the announcement not only addresses financial concerns but also reinforces the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce. The decision is likely to strengthen the trust and morale of employees, while simultaneously boosting festive sentiment in markets across Uttar Pradesh.
With this announcement, millions of households in the state are expected to mark a brighter and more prosperous Diwali this year.
