Possible Fidayeen Link Probed in Deadly Red Fort Blast; Delhi on High Alert

New Delhi, November 10: Investigators are probing the possibility of a fidayeen-style (suicide) attack in the high-intensity explosion that ripped through a car near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening, killing at least nine people and injuring several others.

According to exclusive sources, CCTV footage shows only one individual driving the Hyundai i20 involved in the incident — both while exiting a toll plaza and later when it reached the Subhash Marg traffic signal near Red Fort, moments before the blast. The vehicle had reportedly been parked for more than three hours prior to the explosion, suggesting that it may have been deliberately timed to coincide with evening rush-hour traffic to inflict maximum casualties.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the blast was powerful enough to gut several nearby vehicles and shatter windowpanes of adjacent buildings. Forensic experts are currently examining debris to identify the type and quantity of explosives used.

Delhi Police have registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act. The case, filed at the Kotwali Police Station, includes Sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA — dealing with punishment and conspiracy for a terror act. Relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) have also been invoked.

Meanwhile, multiple raids are being conducted across the city as part of the ongoing counter-terror investigation. The national capital has been placed on high alert, with heightened security measures enforced at airports, railway stations, metro hubs, and bus terminals.

The explosion, which occurred around 6:45 p.m. near the Red Fort Metro Station, triggered widespread panic in the crowded area. Visuals from the site showed the mangled remains of the car and several other vehicles engulfed in flames as emergency teams rushed to contain the blaze.

Top officials from the Delhi Police Special Cell, National Security Guard (NSG), and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have joined the investigation to trace the driver and determine whether the attack was orchestrated by an organised terror module.

Authorities are also closely reviewing CCTV footage from toll booths, metro stations, and parking areas to retrace the car’s movements leading up to the explosion.
