Srinagar / Faridabad, November 10: In a major counter-terror breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in coordination with Haryana Police, have recovered two AK-47 rifles and over 350 kilograms of explosives from a rented apartment in Faridabad, Haryana. The seizure followed disclosures made by a doctor arrested in an ongoing Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)-linked terror investigation.
Emerging JeM Network Within Professional Circles
The investigation was launched after posters supporting the banned militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed appeared across Srinagar on October 27. CCTV footage subsequently identified Dr. Adeel, a resident of Qazigund, South Kashmir, as the person behind the act.
Dr. Adeel, who was serving as a Senior Resident at GMC Anantnag until October 2024, had recently taken up employment as a medicine specialist at a hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. On November 6, Srinagar Police arrested him at the Saharanpur facility.
A search of his former workplace led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle from his locker, significantly expanding the scope of the probe beyond Jammu and Kashmir. Investigators began tracing his contacts and movements across multiple states.
Massive Explosives Seizure in Faridabad
Interrogation of Dr. Adeel led police to another suspect, Dr. Mufazil Shakeel, who had been residing in a rented flat in Faridabad. A subsequent raid on the premises resulted in the recovery of another AK-47 rifle and approximately 300 kilograms of high-grade explosives.
Dr. Shakeel is currently absconding, and search operations are underway to apprehend him. Authorities suspect that the recovered materials were intended for large-scale subversive activities, though the specific targets are yet to be identified.
Multi-State Investigation Underway
According to officials, the investigation has unveiled a disturbing nexus of radicalised individuals within professional sectors, including the medical fraternity. The probe now focuses on cross-border linkages, terror financing channels, and arms trafficking networks possibly operating across Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
All recoveries were made under the supervision of senior officers from both state police forces. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other national security bodies have been roped in to assist with the case, given the volume of explosives and the potential magnitude of the planned attack.
Forensic Analysis and Ongoing Operations
Police officials confirmed that a forensic examination of the seized materials is currently underway, and a detailed statement will be released following the completion of laboratory testing.
Authorities credited technical surveillance, including phone tracking and inter-state intelligence coordination, for the swift and coordinated action that led to the bust.
“The operation demonstrates the strength of inter-agency cooperation and the effectiveness of intelligence sharing between state police forces,” a senior J&K Police officer said, adding that further arrests are expected in the coming days as the investigation continues to widen.
