Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha’s Convoy Attacked During Polling in Lakhisarai; Stones, Slippers, and Cow Dung Hurled

Lakhisarai (Bihar): Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha’s convoy came under attack on Thursday during the first phase of polling in the state. The incident took place in Khoriari village under Lakhisarai constituency, where unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled stones, slippers, and even cow dung at the minister’s convoy, while shouting “Murdabad” slogans to block his passage.

Sinha, who is also the BJP candidate from the constituency, alleged that the attack was carried out by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supporters. Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, the Deputy Chief Minister claimed he was surrounded by nearly a hundred people after he went to complain to local authorities about one of his polling agents being denied entry into a booth.

“The polling agent was not allowed to sit. I complained to the SP about it. Soon after, I was surrounded. Slippers, stones, and even cow dung were thrown at me,” Sinha said.

Accusing the Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD of orchestrating the violence, Sinha said the opposition party’s supporters were resorting to hooliganism out of fear of electoral defeat.

“These are RJD goons. Look at their behaviour even before coming to power. This shows their mindset. They are engaging in goondaism because they fear losing the elections,” he alleged.

Following the attack, Sinha contacted the Superintendent of Police (SP) over the phone, demanding immediate reinforcements.

“I am at the village. The crowd is coming closer. Send Special Forces here. I will sit in protest if needed. The SP is weak and cowardly — they are not letting the Deputy CM move freely. Stones and cow dung have been hurled,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.

Sinha further declared that the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would return to power despite such incidents.

“NDA is coming to power, and that’s why they’re panicking — a bulldozer will run over their arrogance. They turned away my polling agent and didn’t let him vote. This happened at booths 404 and 405 in Khoriari village,” he said.

Election Commission Takes Cognisance

The Election Commission has taken note of the incident. Bihar’s Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Amit Kumar Pandey, confirmed that a report had been sought.

“We have taken cognisance of the incident. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has asked for a detailed report regarding what occurred with the convoy and the subsequent action taken,” Pandey told PTI.

Tension During Phase One of Bihar Polls

The attack led to brief chaos in the area, with security personnel rushing to control the situation. Additional police forces were deployed immediately to prevent further escalation.

The incident occurred amid the first phase of polling across 121 constituencies in Bihar, marking a tense start to the multi-phase assembly elections.
