Bengaluru: A 31-year-old employee of a private firm has filed a complaint alleging years of blackmail, extortion, sexual coercion and torture by a group of acquaintances. According to the case, the prime accused had secretly recorded the complainant’s late mother using a hidden camera installed in the bathroom, and later used the footage to blackmail him.
The Yelahanka New Town Police have begun an investigation into the disturbing allegations.
In his complaint, the victim stated that the prime accused, identified as Prashanth B. R., began living at his residence in Thindlu in 2018. During this period, Prashanth allegedly planted a covert camera in the bathroom and recorded the complainant’s mother. A few days after her death, the accused allegedly showed the video to the victim and threatened to release it online unless he complied with their demands.
According to the FIR, the accused forced the victim to perform sexual acts, including masturbating in a public place, an act which they allegedly recorded. Over the years, Prashanth and his associates reportedly extorted more than ₹50,000 from the victim and coerced him into posing for explicit photos and videos. The complainant also alleged he was pressured to engage in drug peddling and was forced to consume drugs during gatherings, often paying for the substances used by the accused.
The victim further alleged that the accused confiscated his important documents, including his Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank papers and personal belongings, restricting his ability to seek help. The ongoing harassment and humiliation reportedly drove him to attempt suicide on multiple occasions.
The complaint states that this pattern of abuse and extortion continued from 2018 to 2024, causing severe psychological trauma.
A senior investigating officer told Deccan Herald that a case has been registered based on the victim’s statement and the evidence presented. Charges have been filed against Prashanth and 10 others under the Information Technology Act, 2000 (Section 66E – Violation of Privacy) and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including:
-
Section 115(2) – Assault or use of criminal force with intent to dishonour
-
Section 308(2) – Attempt to commit culpable homicide
The investigation is currently underway.
