Dublin: Representatives of the World Malayalee Federation (WMF), one of the largest global organisations of the Malayalee diaspora, held a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Akhilesh Mishra, at the Indian Embassy in Dublin.
The delegation, led by Mrs. Roslet Philip, WMF Global Joint Secretary and former Global Women’s Forum Coordinator, and Mr. Shaiju Thomas, National Council Coordinator of WMF Ireland, met the Ambassador upon a special invitation extended by the Embassy.
The discussions primarily focused on issues affecting the Indian community in Ireland, particularly those concerning the Malayalee diaspora. Among the major topics raised were:
-
Technical difficulties in the online system for OCI card renewal,
- Delays in visa processing for applicants traveling to Ireland,
- The new regulation requiring applicants to obtain birth certificates directly from India instead of through the Embassy,
- Challenges faced by Indian students and healthcare professionals in Ireland,
- Broader employment-related issues among the Indian workforce,
- The need for greater transparency in Indo-Irish trade opportunities, and
- Measures to prevent racial discrimination against Indians living in Ireland.
Ambassador Mishra assured the delegation that he would take up these concerns with the relevant Indian and Irish authorities to seek appropriate resolutions.
He also commended the World Malayalee Federation for its ongoing efforts to support and empower Indian expatriates across the globe, acknowledging the organisation’s contributions to strengthening India’s image and community networks worldwide.
