Jaipur, Rajasthan: The tragic death of a nine-year-old student at Neerja Modi School in Jaipur has sparked outrage, with the child’s parents alleging negligence and inaction by school authorities over repeated complaints of bullying.
The incident occurred on November 1, when the student allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school building — a height of approximately 48 feet. Though she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival. CCTV footage reportedly captured the moment, showing the girl climbing the railing before the fatal fall.
According to India Today, the girl’s mother, Shivani, stated that she had repeatedly informed the class teacher about her daughter being bullied but no action was taken. Her father, Vijay, recounted that during a parent-teacher meeting, he had pointed out a boy making inappropriate gestures toward his daughter. The class teacher, however, allegedly dismissed his concern, saying the girl “needed to understand it was a co-ed school.”
Family members revealed that the child had been facing harassment for nearly a year, but the school administration failed to intervene. On the day of the incident, CCTV footage reportedly showed the student approaching her teacher four times to complain about the bullying, yet no response followed.
When police reached the school after the incident, they found that the area where the girl had fallen had already been cleaned, with no visible bloodstains, raising further suspicion. The family has since filed an FIR against the school administration, alleging negligence, destruction of evidence, and claiming that the circumstances surrounding the death were suspicious.
The school management has not yet issued an official statement regarding the case. However, they have been accused by the family of being uncooperative and silent during the investigation.
The Joint Parents’ Association has also demanded a fair and impartial investigation, alleging that the school attempted to destroy evidence. Its president, Arvind Agarwal, stated that the association had received information from the deceased girl’s uncle and other students indicating that she had been subjected to harassment for one to two years.
The incident has reignited public concern over student safety and the handling of bullying complaints in schools, prompting calls for accountability and stricter enforcement of child protection protocols in educational institutions.
