New Delhi, November 12, 2025: A series of coordinated raids by security and intelligence agencies across Delhi-NCR and Jammu and Kashmir has led to the recovery of nearly 3,000 kg of explosives, firearms, and bomb-making materials, in what officials describe as one of the largest terror-related seizures in recent years. Sources say the raids forced the suspect involved in the Red Fort car blast to act hastily, triggering the explosion prematurely under mounting pressure from investigating agencies.
According to senior government officials, the explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station on November 10 was not the result of a fully developed device but a premature blast caused by raw explosives. The impact was significantly reduced as the material had not yet been assembled for detonation—no shrapnel, metal fragments, or craters were found at the site. “The explosive appeared unconfigured for an immediate strike,” a senior officer said, adding that the blast likely occurred due to mishandling or friction inside the moving vehicle.
Preliminary investigations have identified the driver of the car as Dr. Umar, who remains absconding. CCTV footage from the vicinity confirmed his presence at the time of the blast. Forensic analysis indicates that the materials used were similar to those recovered earlier during raids in Faridabad, suggesting a direct connection between the Red Fort incident and the Faridabad terror module.
Following the explosion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and forensic experts to the scene. He personally visited LNJP Hospital to meet the injured and later inspected the blast site the same night. The investigation was formally handed over to the NIA on November 11 for a comprehensive probe into the module’s network, funding, and operational links.
Swift Action Against Jaish-e-Mohammed Module
Officials confirmed that the dismantled network is allegedly linked to the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The operation was launched following the discovery of objectionable posters in Srinagar’s Naugam area, which led to the registration of an FIR on October 19, 2025.
Between October 20 and 27, Maulvi Irfan Ahmad Waghe from Shopian and Zameer Ahmad from Ganderbal were arrested. Subsequent raids in Saharanpur and Anantnag on November 5 and 7 resulted in the seizure of an AK-56 rifle and other ammunition. Further operations on November 8 at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad uncovered additional pistols, firearms, and explosives. Several medical professionals, including Dr. Adeel and Dr. Muzammil, were taken into custody during these operations, revealing a larger network embedded within educational and religious institutions.
The most significant breakthrough came on November 10, when a massive cache of 2,563 kg of explosive material was discovered at the residence of Hafeez Mohammad Ishtiaq, imam of Al-Falah Mosque in Faridabad’s Dhera Colony. Additional raids recovered another 358 kg of explosives, along with detonators and timers, bringing the total seizure close to 3,000 kg. Officials say the coordinated crackdown averted a “potentially catastrophic” terror attack.
Blast Likely an Accident, Not a Fidayeen Strike
Sources have largely ruled out the possibility of a fidayeen (suicide) attack. “A fidayeen mission typically involves one trained operative,” an official explained. “In this case, evidence suggests multiple people were in the car, and all perished in the explosion.” Investigators believe the module was in the process of relocating explosive material from a compromised hideout when the accident occurred.
Another senior officer noted that the Red Fort incident may have inadvertently prevented a larger tragedy. “They could have been preparing for multiple explosions. The accidental blast inside the car might have been a major setback for the module — one that ultimately saved many lives,” he said.
