Cricketer Vipraj Nigam, who plays for the Delhi team in the IPL, has found himself embroiled in controversy after filing a police complaint against a woman identified as Richa Purohit, accusing her of repeatedly threatening him through calls and messages.
Nigam lodged an FIR at the Kotwali Nagar Police Station in Barabanki, demanding strict action against the woman. According to his complaint, since September 2025, he has been receiving threatening phone calls and messages from Richa Purohit. When he blocked her number, she allegedly continued to contact him through multiple international numbers, warning him that she would frame him in false cases and defame him by posting manipulated videos on social media.
Nigam further stated that these threats have now extended to his family members and acquaintances, causing significant mental distress. He urged the police to take immediate and firm action against Richa Purohit.
Meanwhile, journalist Tanu Balyan claimed on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that she had spoken to Richa Purohit, who shared a completely different version of events. According to Balyan’s post, Richa alleged that Vipraj Nigam befriended her, lured her with a false promise of marriage, and later assaulted her at a hotel in Noida after a sexual encounter.
Richa reportedly accused Nigam of threatening her at gunpoint and forcing her to record a video of the incident. Speaking to Balyan, she also alleged that Noida Police failed to provide her assistance, despite her repeated attempts to file a complaint.
The case has since gained traction on social media, with both sides presenting conflicting accounts — one alleging blackmail and intimidation, and the other claiming exploitation and assault — leaving investigators with a complex web of allegations to unravel.
