New Delhi, November 11: Investigations into the devastating car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, which claimed eight lives and injured more than 20 people, have revealed significant leads suggesting the involvement of a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module. According to exclusive information obtained by CNN-News18, the suspected operative — identified as Tariq — fled from Faridabad mere hours before the blast, narrowly escaping an ongoing counter-terror operation.
Intelligence sources indicate that Tariq managed to evade capture late Sunday night when security agencies launched coordinated raids in Faridabad following the seizure of over 2,900 kilograms of explosives and the arrest of multiple suspects connected to a broader radicalisation network.
After escaping, Tariq is believed to have entered Delhi through peripheral routes early Monday morning to avoid surveillance and checkpoints. By around 3:00 p.m., he was reportedly spotted near the Sunheri Masjid inside the Red Fort complex, where he allegedly parked the explosive-laden vehicle that later detonated during the evening rush hour.
Investigators have clarified that the explosion was not intended to be a suicide attack. According to preliminary findings, Tariq’s plan was to abandon the car at the busy location and flee before detonation. However, circumstances surrounding the exact timing of the explosion remain under scrutiny.
Forensic teams and intelligence agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police Special Cell, are now working to trace Tariq’s movements between Faridabad and Delhi and to determine whether other operatives assisted him in executing the attack.
The Red Fort explosion has once again drawn attention to Pakistan-backed terror modules operating through sleeper cells and radicalised individuals across northern India. Security has been tightened across the National Capital Region (NCR), with special checks and surveillance intensified at all major entry points, metro stations, and transport hubs.
