An Indian man from Kerala who secretly viewed bedroom scenes and nude scenes in guests' rooms while working at a hotel in Coleraine, near Belfast, Ireland, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison.
The young man was sentenced by a court in Aintrim yesterday. Nirmal Varghese, 38, was sentenced for not only secretly watching the footage for sexual gratification while at work, but also recording it on his mobile phone.
When the arrested man's phone was checked, police found images of several people's bedrooms. It is not known how long he had been in Northern Ireland.
The number of non nationals in prison in Ireland for murder and other crimes is also on the rise, as is the number of sex offenders. Locals are now posting racist comments on the online pages of local media outlets that publish such news. The general local sentiment is that such people should be put in prison and deported without incurring financial burdens on the government.
The court heard that the police were able to recover footage of at least 16 people from the phone of Nirmal, who worked at the Bushtown Crown Hotel. He filmed footage of people changing their clothes in the rooms of people who came to stay while working as a cleaner at the hotel.
