A disturbing video from Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli district has sparked nationwide outrage after revealing primary school children being forced to carry bricks and perform interlocking work on the school premises.
The incident occurred at Sandi Nagin Primary School in Amawan Block, overseen by headmistress Pratibha Singh. The footage, shared on X by user Rahul Saini, shows several uniformed children struggling to lift bricks and walk across a broken pathway near the school building. Some appear exhausted, while others look confused yet compelled to take part in the manual labour.

In a troubling turn, the video also shows the headmistress attempting to block the camera with her hand, pleading with the person recording to delete the footage, before hastily sending the children back inside their classrooms.
The visuals have raised serious concerns regarding child exploitation and the blatant violation of child rights within a government-run educational institution. Under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, children are strictly prohibited from being engaged in hazardous or manual labour. The involvement of school authorities—entrusted with safeguarding students—makes the incident even more alarming.
Though the district administration has yet to announce formal action, mounting public outrage points to rising demands for accountability at all levels. As the video continues to circulate widely, many are questioning how such practices were allowed to occur and how many similar incidents remain unreported across the state.
Public Reaction
Social media users swiftly reacted to the viral video. Opinions, however, were sharply divided. One user commented, “What’s wrong with this? We used to do similar things in school. Before morning prayers, we all cleaned together. It actually helps children.” Another user said, “Strict action must be taken immediately against such a teacher.” A third wrote, “The harshest possible action is required.”
The incident has reignited a broader conversation about children's safety, rights, and the need for stronger oversight in educational institutions.
