RAJKOT, Gujarat: A harrowing incident has sent shockwaves through the community after a seven-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault, including penetration with a one-foot iron rod, in Rajkot district, Gujarat, on December 4.
The minor, whose parents are migrant labourers from Dahod, was allegedly abducted from a farm in Atkot village where they were working. Police reports indicate that the accused, identified as 35-year-old farm labourer Ramsingh Terasingh Dadwejar, allegedly inserted the iron rod into her private parts following a reported failed attempt at sexual assault.
Swift Police Investigation and Detention
The police formed 10 special teams to hunt down the perpetrator, Ramsingh Terasingh Dadwejar. Investigators scoured CCTV footage and analyzed telecom data, interrogating around 140 suspects before narrowing the list down to ten.
Utilizing the assistance of child counselors and female officers, the traumatized victim was shown photographs, leading her to identify the accused. Ramsingh, a father-of-three originally from Madhya Pradesh, was subsequently arrested near the scene of the crime. During questioning, he reportedly confessed that the failed sexual assault attempt led him to become enraged and violent, according to The Times of India.
Details of the Attack and Discovery
The assault unfolded near fields in Atkot, under the Jasdan taluka. Ramsingh, who had been working as a local farmhand for two years, abducted the girl, gagged her, and dragged her to an isolated spot near a water tank around 11 am on December 4.
When the girl screamed during the attempted assault, the accused allegedly flew into a rage and inflicted the severe rod injury before fleeing the scene. The girl was later found in a pool of blood by her frantic parents, who had noticed her absence and began a desperate search. Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar confirmed the details, noting the case exposes the vulnerabilities of migrant families in isolated rural areas.
Victim's Condition and Legal Action
The child was rushed first to a local medical facility and then referred to the government children’s hospital in Rajkot due to severe bleeding. Doctors have deemed her condition stable, and she remains under ongoing treatment.
The sheer brutality of the attack has sparked outrage among locals, with many drawing parallels to high-profile past cases for its savagery.
Stringent charges have been filed against the accused under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (corresponding to the new legal code) and Sections 5(i), 5(m), and 6(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police have assured the community that they will ensure maximum punishment and are investigating all possibilities to confirm no other individuals were involved in the crime.
