Varanasi: A tragic case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, where a 30-year-old man from Lohata died by suicide, allegedly over his wife's suspected infidelity. The deceased, identified as Rahul Mishra, recorded a video message shortly before taking the extreme step.
In the video, Mishra claimed he was being harassed by his wife and alleged that she was involved in a relationship with a man named Shubham Singh. He said he loved his wife and young son deeply and expressed anguish over the thought of being separated from his child. ‘I loved my wife very much. I wanted to live. Today I am committing s*icide. I don’t like it that my wife talks to someone else, that someone else takes her to a hotel’

Mishra, who reportedly filmed the video while riding a motorcycle, stated that he and his wife Sandhya had a love marriage five years ago. “I love my wife and my son very much. But my wife is cheating on me and continues to stay in contact with Shubham Singh Danger, despite my objections,” he said.
Visibly distressed, he added that he could no longer endure the emotional turmoil: “I don’t want to die, but I cannot bear this pain anymore.”
In the video, he also alleged that his wife had accused him of forcing her into inappropriate acts with his friends—allegations he claimed were false. Toward the end of the recording, Mishra appealed to the government to amend Section 498 of the IPC, which pertains to a married woman being taken or enticed away for illicit purposes. He further claimed that “men have been increasingly harassed” under laws strengthened after 2014.
Mishra also blamed his mother-in-law, alleging that she encouraged Sandhya to cut ties with him and block his phone number.
Following the incident, Mishra’s mother lodged a formal complaint. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Varuna Zone) Neetu Kadyan informed PTI that the police have booked Sandhya, Shubham Singh alias “Danger,” and Mishra’s mother-in-law, Mandvi, on charges of abetment of suicide.
An investigation is underway.
