Tamil Nadu Worker Killed While Trying to Stop Moving Lorry; Separate Bus Crash Leaves Nine Dead

A tragic accident was reported on December 30 in Arani, Tamil Nadu, where a worker was killed while attempting to stop a moving lorry with his bare hands. A video of the incident has since surfaced online.

The footage shows the incident unfolding inside an old shed in Arani, where two workers—one younger and one older—were carrying out routine tasks. The shed gate was partially closed, and two trucks were parked nearby. As the older worker walked towards the gate to hand something to his colleague and opened it, one of the trucks, which had been parked on elevated ground outside the shed, began to roll forward on its own.

Alarmed, the worker alerted others and attempted to stop the lorry using his hands. Two colleagues rushed to assist him as he tried to prevent the vehicle from colliding with another truck. Despite their efforts, the lorry continued moving and struck the parked vehicle. The older worker was crushed in the impact and died on the spot.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident, including whether proper safety measures were in place.

Four people, including two children, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to nearby government hospitals. Officials said the injured are receiving treatment and are under medical supervision.

Reacting to the tragedies, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep shock and grief over the loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims. He announced compensation of ₹3 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund for the families of those who died, and ₹1 lakh each for the injured.

Of the nine people killed in the bus accident, five were men and four were women. The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for those injured at government hospitals.
