Pakistan Among Participants in US-Led ‘Board of Peace’; Israel Voices Strong Objections

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was among the leaders of 20 countries who signed the charter of US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace,” an initiative aimed at shaping a post-conflict framework for Gaza and broader regional stability.

Israel is also listed among the participating countries. However, Israeli officials have made it clear that Pakistan will not be permitted any role in Gaza’s transformation process or in a potential peacekeeping mechanism. Speaking to NDTV on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat said Israel does not welcome countries it considers supporters of terrorism. “Any country that supports terrorism is not welcome—and that includes Pakistan,” he said.

According to reports from international media outlets, India, China, and Russia chose to stay away from the initiative, despite invitations being sent to nearly 50 countries. Several permanent members of the UN Security Council, including China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom, have also adopted a non-committal or distant stance toward the proposal.

Countries that have signed the charter reportedly include the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Argentina, Türkiye, and Bahrain, among others. Media reports further indicate that the proposed framework suggests a membership contribution of $1 billion for participating nations, though official details on funding mechanisms and governance structures remain unclear.

The “Board of Peace” proposal has triggered mixed reactions globally, with supporters viewing it as an ambitious attempt to reshape Gaza’s future, while critics question its feasibility, inclusiveness, and legitimacy in the absence of key global and regional stakeholders. The US administration has yet to release a comprehensive roadmap outlining the board’s mandate, operational authority, or implementation timeline.
