Four-Year-Old Girl Killed in Tragic Accident During Republic Day Celebrations in Mumbai’s Vikhroli

Mumbai A four-year-old girl died in a tragic accident during Republic Day celebrations in Mumbai’s Vikhroli area after loudspeakers installed for the event collapsed on her. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on January 26 at Tagore Nagar, casting a shadow over the national festivities.

According to officials, two large loudspeakers that had been set up on the ground for the celebrations suddenly toppled onto the child. CCTV footage from the area shows that the accident occurred when electrical wires connected to the speakers became entangled with a bag carried by a passer-by, causing the equipment to lose balance and fall.

The incident took place during a programme organised by a local committee. The child was reportedly running near the speakers when the wires were accidentally pulled. Local residents immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. The deceased child was the daughter of a couple who run a mobile phone repair sho
p in Tagore Nagar.

Police Action and Investigation

Vikhroli police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that while loudspeakers were usually mounted at an elevated height in previous years, they were placed on the ground this time, raising concerns over safety arrangements.

An FIR has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with death caused by negligence. Police have named the owner of the loudspeakers, Vinod Parmar, and a scrap dealer, Syed Khuran, whose bag reportedly got caught in the wiring, as accused in the case. Both have been issued notices, officials said.

Senior Inspector Chandrakant Naikawadi confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine responsibility and assess whether safety norms were violated.

Concerns Over Public Event Safety

The incident has triggered widespread concern over safety standards at public events, particularly those involving heavy equipment and temporary installations. Police have cautioned that negligence in handling such equipment can lead to fatal consequences.

Residents of Tagore Nagar expressed shock and grief over the child’s death, calling for stricter enforcement of safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
