Tonk, Rajasthan: A mysterious vessel discovered in a deep pit in Deori village of Rajasthan’s Tonk district has sparked widespread curiosity and speculation among local residents, prompting swift intervention by the authorities.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on January 3, 2026. At around 4 pm, villagers noticed freshly disturbed soil and rose petals scattered across grazing land in the area, triggering rumours that something unusual lay buried underground. Initial suspicion centred on the possibility of a concealed body, leading to heightened concern in the village.
As word spread, thousands of villagers gathered at the site. A JCB excavator was deployed to dig the area under public view. To the surprise of those present, a large vessel resembling an earthen or metal container emerged from a pit approximately 15 feet deep. The sight of the object led to widespread speculation that it could contain buried treasure, prompting several villagers to rush toward the excavation site.
Local police quickly intervened to disperse the crowd and prevent disorder. The vessel was seized, sealed on the spot and taken into official custody. Village sarpanch Ram Sahay Meena was informed, and senior revenue officials, including the Sub-Divisional Officer and the Tehsildar, were alerted. A land records official was also summoned to the site to document the findings.
Following instructions from senior authorities, the recovered vessel was sealed and shifted to the old tehsil office for safekeeping. Officials said further examination would be conducted to determine the nature, age and contents of the object.
While the administration has not yet disclosed what the vessel contains, its discovery has fuelled intense speculation across nearby villages. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, assuring that any findings will be officially communicated after proper verification.
The incident remains under investigation, with officials expected to clarify whether the object holds historical, archaeological or material significance.
