In a key political development, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran has officially rejoined the NDA, marking a decisive turn in state politics. Dhinakaran, who had distanced himself from the alliance in recent months and had been openly critical of AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), announced his return to the NDA on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media in Chennai, Dhinakaran said he had chosen to set aside past differences in the interest of the state and for the sake of stable and effective governance. As part of the move, he met Union Minister Piyush Goyal and formally expressed his support to the alliance.
Commenting on his decision, Dhinakaran said that making compromises when necessary should not be viewed as a sign of weakness, but rather as a step taken in the larger interest of Tamil Nadu’s welfare and the political future of his party. He described his differences with Edappadi Palaniswami as “a dispute between alliance partners,” signalling an attempt to downplay earlier tensions.
Reaffirming his ideological position, Dhinakaran said all those who follow the principles of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa would ultimately come together, with the shared objective of restoring what he described as “Amma’s governance” in the state.
Meanwhile, Dhinakaran is expected to participate in a major public meeting scheduled to be held in Chennai on January 23, which is also set to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event is being seen as a show of strength for the NDA as it seeks to project unity and momentum ahead of the elections.
