Kanpur: Five years after the death of gangster Vikas Dubey, the prime accused in the infamous Bikru massacre case in Uttar Pradesh, fresh political and family disputes have surfaced, rekindling public attention around the controversial episode.
Richa Dubey, the widow of Vikas Dubey, has publicly rejected allegations made by Khushi Dubey, the wife of Amar Dubey—one of Vikas Dubey’s close associates. Richa accused Khushi of deliberately attempting to malign her family and dismissed her claims as baseless.
Richa Dubey’s Key Assertions
Richa Dubey denied Khushi Dubey’s claim that Vikas Dubey had forced her marriage to Amar Dubey. According to Richa, Khushi married Amar of her own volition and had previously been married to another man. She further alleged that Khushi’s recent statements were being made at the behest of unnamed individuals.
Warning against what she described as a deliberate smear campaign, Richa said her family would not remain silent if attempts were made to tarnish their reputation.
Addressing the Bikru incident itself, Richa stated that she had no prior knowledge of the events of July 2, 2020. She described the killing of eight police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, as “extremely condemnable” and said her family continues to bear the consequences of that tragedy.
Political Controversy
The dispute intensified after a video surfaced in which Khushi Dubey thanked Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. Yadav had reportedly borne the medical expenses for Khushi’s mother, prompting speculation that Khushi was aligning herself with the Samajwadi Party.
These developments have given the Bikru case a renewed political dimension, reigniting debate over the broader implications of the incident.
What Is the Bikru Case?
On the night of July 2, 2020, a police team, including a DSP, arrived at Bikru village near Kanpur to arrest Vikas Dubey, a notorious criminal with a long history of cases against him. Dubey and his associates ambushed the police team, killing eight personnel in a brazen attack that shocked the nation.
Days later, Vikas Dubey was arrested in Madhya Pradesh. While being transported back to Kanpur, he was shot dead by police during what officials described as an encounter after the police vehicle overturned and Dubey allegedly attempted to escape by seizing a firearm.
However, the official account was met with widespread scepticism, with critics alleging that the killing was a staged or “fake” encounter—an accusation that continues to cast a shadow over the case.
