An inmate was killed following an assault by a fellow prisoner at Faridabad Jail in Haryana on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Rahman, a native of Jammu and Kashmir. Jail authorities said he succumbed to injuries after being allegedly beaten by another inmate, Arun Chaudhary.
Incident Details
Abdul Rahman had been transferred to Faridabad Jail only a few days earlier from Neemka Jail in Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, shortly after his arrival, he was brutally attacked by Chaudhary inside the prison premises. Following the incident, Rahman was rushed to a civil hospital, where he was declared dead.
Authorities said the body will be sent to his native place in Kashmir after post-mortem examinations are completed.
Terror Case Background
Rahman was an accused in a case involving an alleged conspiracy to attack the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in August last year. He was arrested from Pali in Rajasthan in a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Faridabad Police and the Intelligence Bureau.
Investigations had revealed that Rahman was in close contact with Abu Sufiyan, identified by intelligence agencies as the head of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent.
A probe has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fatal assault, and jail authorities have said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
