KANPUR: A sense of shock gripped visitors at Kanpur’s popular Moti Jheel on Wednesday morning after the body of a 14-year-old boy was discovered floating in the lake. The deceased, who had been reported missing from his home a day earlier, was spotted by morning walkers near the Kargil Park area.
Discovery and Police Response
Upon receiving the alert, a team from the Swaroop Nagar Police Station rushed to the scene. Due to the body being positioned toward the center of the lake, authorities deployed a boat to retrieve it. A large crowd gathered at the site as news of the incident spread through the locality.
Following the recovery, police conducted the Panchnama (preliminary report) before sending the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as the son of Babu Singh, a resident of the Bithoor area. According to family members, the teenager had gone missing from his residence on March 24. Despite a search operation launched by the family, his whereabouts remained unknown until the tragic discovery at the park this morning.
Security Concerns and Investigation
The incident has raised significant questions regarding the security protocols at Moti Jheel. The park is known for its strict surveillance, including overnight closures, deployed security guards, and regulated boating services.
"Preliminary observations do not show any external injuries, suggesting prima facie that this is a case of accidental drowning," stated Central ADCP Archana Singh. "However, the investigation will focus on how the teenager managed to enter the premises and reach the water, especially given the existing security measures."
