Waterford: Two young children were rushed to hospital on Friday following a serious fall from a balcony at an apartment complex in Waterford.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred after a glass panel on the side of the balcony gave way, resulting in a three-year-old boy falling approximately 20 feet. His seven-year-old sister also fell while attempting to prevent him from falling. Both children were immediately transported to University Hospital Waterford for medical treatment.
An Garda Síochána confirmed that officers were among the emergency responders attending what has been described as a “medical emergency” at a residential property in the Mount Suir apartment complex.
A Garda spokesperson stated: “Shortly before 11am on Friday, 20 March 2026, Gardaí in Waterford assisted other agencies in responding to a medical emergency at a residential property at Mount Suir, Waterford. An Garda Síochána has no additional information regarding the incident.”
Meanwhile, Waterford City and County Council confirmed that it has initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement, a council spokesperson said: “Waterford City and County Council was notified of a serious incident at the Mount Suir Apartment complex in Waterford City on Friday, 20 March. The council has reached out to the family to offer support, and a formal investigation into the incident has commenced.”
The condition of the children has not been publicly disclosed.
